JOB DESCRIPTION
The Maintenance Manager manages the maintenance staff ensuring the service, repair and overall maintenance of aircraft, aircraft engines and ground support equipment is functioning properly.  The successful candidate will verify aircraft are safe for flight and compliant with NASA and FAA regulations.  The candidate will provide daily oversite of the scheduling and timely completion of repairs and maintenance ensuring budget adherence.  The candidate acts as an advisor to aircraft maintenance team regarding projects, tasks and operations.  The candidate ensures all maintenance functions and supporting activities are conducted in accordance with appropriate safety directives, standard operating procedures, technical manuals, Company and NASA policies. 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Responsible for the maintenance management of assigned aircraft and visiting aircraft as directed.

  • Ensuring airworthiness as defined within 14 CFR by researching permanent records, maintenance tracking program, FAA Airworthiness Directives and Manufacturer’s Service Bulletins/Customer Bulletins for NASA assigned aircraft.

  • Familiar working knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, industry best practices, OSHA and AS9110C requirements.

  • Administers and ensures compliance with the NPR 7900 .3, GM M, AMOC QAP, QASP, SOW and AMOC QMS

  • Serves as Quality Management System internal auditor. Gives input for quality manual reviews (QMRs); Improves program processes and procedures; Risk Management Working Group

  • Communicates effectively and accurately with the Customer, vendors and internal departments.

  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports any unsafe conditions.

  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance planning, along with management oversight of inspections, repairs, and modifications.

  • Reviews and approves Research Vehicle Work Request Approval (830-AOF-0305) as requested for work authorizations.

  • Responsible for management of the maintenance inspection requirements per FAA or NASA approved maintenance program.

  • Provides technical support, as needed, in support of assigned aircraft.

  • Reviews and ensures all required entries into the aircraft logbooks and permanent records are accurate and preserved in accordance with NASA and FAA requirements.

  • Ensures NAMIS Maintenance and Logistics is used properly to track all aircraft parts and maintenance activities

  • Perform maintenance planning along with the management oversight of inspections, repairs, modifications, and mission support (CONUS and OCONUS).

  • Ensures timely scheduling of maintenance in order to least impact NASA’s flight schedule.

  • Proactively provides recommendations for modifications and upgrades, as necessary.

  • Obtains vendor proposals for upcoming maintenance packages.

  • Preparation of an annual and forecasted maintenance budget for assigned aircraft.

  • Ensure all direct reports receive job and safety training.

  • Recommend and initiate personnel actions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions although most of the time is in an office, workstation, shared space, and/or hangar. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional high volume when aircrafts arrive/depart. Occasional fuel fumes may permeate the workplace. The Hangar environment may be extreme hot and cold during certain seasons of the year.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in an associated discipline.  Two (2) years experience in related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (Certifications, Etc.)
Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic (A&P) Certificate, mandatory
Possesses a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
U.S. Citizen
Travel < 10%
